Magda Wozniak is an award-winning screenwriter from Boorloo/Perth, based in Naarm/Melbourne. She has been writing for television for almost fifteen years, has had work screen at festivals across the UK, Europe, and the United States, and has three times been the recipient of an Australian Writers’ Guild Award. Most recently, she was Co-Creator, EP and Writer on Shakedown - a four-part drama mini-series for the ABC about the personal and political costs of Robodebt, adapted from Rick Morton’s book, Mean Streak. This series is expected to air in late 2026.
Magda’s other credits include the acclaimed miniseries and memoir adaptation Bad Behaviour (Stan/NBCU), The Messenger (ABC) adapted from Marcus Zusak’s novel of the same name, historically revisionist comedy-drama While the Men are Away (SBS), and international success RFDS (Ch 7). She also has extensive experience across children’s television, having written for Crazy Fun Park (ABC), Surviving Summer (Netflix), The PM's Daughter (ABC) and Mustangs FC (ABC) - on which she was one of the key writers across all three seasons. Prior to this, Magda began her writing career in serial drama, working in-house at Neighbours (Ch 10) as a Storyliner and Script Editor, with writing credits across Neighbours, Home and Away (Ch 7) and The Heights (ABC).
Magda holds a BA(Communication Studies) Hons (1A) from the University of Western Australia and a Masters of Professional Communications from the WA Screen Academy. She is currently in development on several new series as lead writer/creator, and continues to work as a writer and script editor. While she writes across a range of genres and styles, Magda is driven primarily by an interest in intelligent, human stories with humour and/or heart, and she has a special interest in feminist/queer themes.
